In einem Geschäft waren sie gerade dabei, Orchideen wegzuwerfen. Ich muss sagen, die Pflanzen waren in einem desolaten Zustand. Ich fragte ob ich sie nach Hause nehmen kann. Die schauten mich an als ob ich nicht ganz dicht im Kopf sei. Ich habe die Pflanze, bezw. was davon übrig war, fotographiert bevor sie erste Hilfe bekam.

I was in a flower shop and saw that the boss there wanted to threw this orchid away. I asked him if I can get her. He told me that she is dead and I told him she isn't. He looked at me and I think he thought that I must be crazy.

Die Orchidee, eine Phalaenopsis, hat gerade mal noch ein grünes Blatt und kaum noch gesunde Wurzeln. Ich habe vorsichtig das faule Material entfernt und die Pflanze in frisches Substrat gesetzt. Sie bekommt viel Feuchtigkeit über die Luft, die Wurzeln werden geschont, keine direkte Sonne und noch keinen Flüssigdünger. Nachdem sie sich etwas erholt hat, tut sich was im Herz. Vermutlich Luftwurzeln. Die Pflanze bekommt etwas Sprühdünger. Sie macht nun neue Blätter.

The rest of this Phalaenopsis just is one leaf . All the roots were sick and the heart looked like burned. I cut all the sick stuff. I put her in fresh substrat, keep her moist over the leaf. She started to make some roots, so I started to water her carefully. She makes now new leaves.

Diese schlappe Phalaenopsis habe ich in Pflege genommen. Die Blätter hängen schlaff hinunter, die Wurzeln quasi tod und am Stängel hatte es 3 Keikis. Eines ist gross genug und kann solo in einem Töpfchen wachsen. Die anderen 2 sind noch klein. Die Mutter bekam frisches Substrat, alles faule weg und sie wird im feuchten Klima nun aufgepäppelt. Dem Keiki geht es wunderbar. Es ist im Zimmertreibhäuschen wo es super Luftfeuchtikeit hat. Die 2 kleinen haben noch keine Wurzeln. Für die habe ich mir was anderes ausgedacht. Siehe Bild unten.

I got this patient from a friend. You can see in which condition she is. She has 3 keikis. The roots were almost dead. I cut all the dead stuff away and the keikis as well. One keiki was big enoug to be potted in a own little pot. The other 2 keikis don't have roots yet. I put them on a special sponge. See the picture below.

Die Kleinen stecken nun in diesem feuchten Schwamm bis sie genug Wurzeln haben. Sie bekommen etwas Blattdüngung.

This littles ones stuck in this sponge until the will have enough roots. I give them a bit dung over the leaves.

Doch die grösste Herausforderung bis anhin ist dieses Stück. Jemand von Deutschland hat es mir zugesandt zwecks Rettung. Dieser scheintote Rest steckt nun in Seramis umhüllt mit Sphagnum. Ich bin mir ziemlich sicher , dass da noch Leben drinn ist aber es wird 6-9 Monate gehen bis sich da was tun wird.

Isn't this a challenge to save this orchid ? I got this little thing by mail from Germany. I put it in Seramis, wrapped in sphagnum. I keep it in a little hothouse. I'm pretty sure that I can save this looking dead little thing. But it will last months until new life will show up.
